Our latest children's clothing collection is an exciting collaboration with the Me&MyMummy brand. The clothes - in addition to being really lovable and charming - were created from Gots and OEKOTEX certified 100% cotton materials, which were decorated with unique patterns made with water-based screen printing. We asked the designer, Éva Metcalf, about her creative process and her sources of inspiration, as well as what the most important aspects are when designing quality children's clothing.
How did your brand come about?
I have been interested in dressing, fashion and clothing design throughout my life. When my first daughter, Mia, was born, I enjoyed dressing her and I loved that we matched in our outfits. I noticed that when we got dressed up, we got a lot of compliments. That's when I came up with the idea of creating a brand where mom and daughter dress together. With the enthusiastic support of my family and the professional help of my cousin (Zita Majoros), I took the plunge and created my first collection.
What inspires you when designing children's clothes?
I fell into motherhood from an office job, the security of a permanent job was important to me. Becoming a mother put me in front of obstacles that I had never experienced before, I found an energy in myself that I didn't even know existed before. This gave me the strength to start a new business with a little baby. Since then, I have had another daughter, Lara, so I also have two little models who help me design the clothes.
How does the product development process work for you?
Usually there is one piece, material or color that starts the design, the collection is built around it. It is very important to me that a collection should be varied but at the same time uniform: it should contain everyday and casual pieces, but each garment should be special in itself.
What is important in good children's clothes?
Now, with several years of experience behind me, I have matured in me what style of clothes I like to make, what are the most important aspects, starting with the selection of the material, all the way to the execution of the style. I always design as a mother ;) so it's important that the clothes are comfortable and wearable and of course that they don't wrinkle as much as possible. Its design should be safe, the garment should last several seasons both in terms of quality, workmanship and style! The material should be pleasant and natural to wear, come from a verified, nearby source, producing as little waste as possible!
