Zsolt Zimmermann
Thinking in systems and searching for connections shaped his vision as early as at the University of Applied Arts. As a freelance graphic designer, he still approaches his work in this way: he does not offer closed solutions, but options in which the client can develop his own system. As his painter brother often told him when he taught him to draw: “proportions, directions, angles” – this became his visual credo and the basis of his creative thinking. The focus of his work is on geometric forms and freedom of variation. He presented his infinite motif systems built from lean basic shapes in the form of reliefs at his first solo exhibition: these works create a completely new effect from the play of light, the pairing of colors or even a single turn. He also draws inspiration from the repetitive rhythms of minimalist music, as well as from the worlds of typography, design and fashion. His references include the logos of Budapest Bar and EDIDA Hungary, the art direction of the redesigned 168 Óra weekly magazine, the organization of The Budapester, and book covers for Joshua Publishing.
