I met the work of the MyForest Community Forests Foundation more than half a year ago, and I have been following them ever since. When community afforestation was announced for November, I decided it wasn’t enough to like and share, let’s go family afforestation.
MyForest Community Forests is an initiative that seeks to create a platform to double the number of forests on earth, first in Hungary and then internationally.
The idea came from the fact that they definitely want to do something about global warming, and as a civilian, tree planting is the most obvious solution.
The number of forests on Earth needs to be doubled because one of the main causes of global warming is that two-thirds of forests have disappeared from Earth since the beginning of industrial civilization. At the same time, the remaining one-third of the forests are no longer able to sequester the amount of CO2 emitted by human activity. This process will lead to global warming and then the destruction of human civilization.
To this end, MyForest acts as a liaison platform, bringing together
- climate-minded civilians who want to contribute to the great common goal of planting trees - companies that participate in the planting of forests,
- landowners who contribute to the project by offering their land, ie giving their land for afforestation, and
- Companies that want to plant trees for their customers.
The area of Kisharaszti, where we came to afforest, is an empty area offered by a private person, near Hatvan. Here, the primary goal of afforestation is to break up agricultural areas a little bit with green wooded islands to support biodiversity. As we planted, 14 deer lounged peacefully and watched across the road, 100 yards from us. It will be a great hiding place for them one day. The purpose of afforestation was replacement planting after spring afforestation. Well, unfortunately, the replacement planting became almost a completely new planting because the pockets chewed on all the oak seedlings planted in the spring (the weeds for some reason, the little lumps). So we started planting. We worked for 4 hours for four, a lot of seedlings were planted. In the end, we were very forged, but we were tired. At the same time, it was a positive fatigue, when you feel like you’ve done something good, meaningful. And I’m so glad my kids were involved in this as well. In the meantime, we had a good conversation and learned a lot from Ferenc Bartucz, the forester leading the plantation.
Then I thought, it's very good to help their work this way, but let's face it, my husband and 2 children are probably not the most valuable help they can get :)), so we definitely want to support their work with a donation of money. . That's why I tied their financial support with my Forest organic cotton sweaters, so we support 1 seedling planting for every swarm.
Myforest planted its first seed-seedlings last fall and has so far planted about 3.5 acres, equivalent to 35,000 seedlings. Everywhere, tree species corresponding to the given region and land quality are planted.
Support their work too!
